History

5 year old male neutered Lion head rabbit with respiratory distress.

Findings

There is markedly increased soft tissue opacity in the cranial mediastinum. The trachea is elevated to the level of the spine, and the carina is displaced caudally. The lung lobes are retracted secondary to the mass effect and a small amount of pleural effusion. The cardiac silhouette is not well visualized.

DDx

Diagnosis

Cystic thymoma

-Cystic thymoma was thought probable on examination of fine needle aspirate samples. Radiation therapy was planned to reduce the size of the mediastinal mass.
